I think you need to find another club.. Here in the Southland we have
a group called SCARA. This Club or Group has been in existance for
a little over three years, and our membership stands at 237. Of this
number 175 are newcomers to the Hobby, ie KC, KD and KE calls...When
a call goes out for assistance you will find a mix of the Old and New
responding, from help with a tower raising, to planning a Dinner or a
Breakfast, the Newsletter committee is made up a Two Hams with about
10 years in the Hobby and the rest are newly licensed Hams under a
year.
This raises a question, What are you looking for, and what have you
offered this club you belong to.. If they dont fulfill your needs, look
elsewhere. We the Olde Pharts make it a point to help and be available
when someone comes looking for advice, and fully support newcomers to
the Hobby, (its only a Hobby) I think you need to look around before
you start painting everyone with the same brush. If your experiences
have been that bad it might lead others to think there is something
wrong with you and your attitude. Get out and look around and stop
the complaining, do something, be somebody.

Subject: Passed Tech+ -- the fun begins...
I passed my exam for Tech+ yesterday! My thanks to the folks here who
shared their wisdom with me. Thanks also to the ARRL; the code tapes and
the "Now You're Talking" book taught me a lot and made everything easy.
I'll be interested in getting a handheld and also a low-cost HF transceiver
for QRP work.
Some questions...
Is there a difference between "twin band" and "dual band" HT's? As far as I
can tell from the ads, both are able to transmit and receive on two bands.
Any recommendations for new or used low-power HF transcievers? Also, is there
a sort of "QRP club" anywhere?
tnx,
-Dave

Subject: requesting opinion on handhelds
I have looked at several kinds and brands of handhelds to buy, and I have
decided on buying either a Yaesu ft530, or a Kenwood th78a. I would
appreciate anyones opinion on which is better, or ups and downs of either one.
I would also appreciate it if anyone would like to give their opinions
about a different kind of radio (base set first, or different brands)
Thanks

Subject: Re: Earth Ground (was: ARRL And Gay Hams Settle Complaint)
Because some people choose to do things in public that should be kept
private, you feel it necessary to dismiss gays as a group as "disgusting",
and compare us to child molesters and the like? What college was this,
again? I thought well-educated people were supposed to be open-minded and
accepting of other cultures. Yes, sodomy is still illegal in some states,
but not many. That term also applies to certain types of male/female
activities, so you might want to make sure you pull the shades and turn out
the lights before you get creative with your wife/girlfriend in those states
as well. I'm sorry you're disgusted, but I'm not sorry I'm gay. I do,
however, have a suggestion as to where on your anatomy you can install your
iron re-bar...
